Saturday morning began with our fearless captain leading us out of Newport, RI. We were headed for Mystic and if we could push on to New London we would do so. Thankfully we had a "normal" day and were able to make it to Shaw Cove in New London, CT. The sun rise was gorgeous and we got up with it to take advantage of as much daylight as possible. Afterall, we had to get on track for the big push to Greenwich by Monday night.
As we pulled around the point, the winds picked up, the seas got rougher, and it looked like time for a backup plan. Not wanting to retreat, we started looking for a nearby harbor. Not finding a nearby harbor where we could moor - without running aground this time - we started to retreat. Tail tucked between our legs we headed back to Shaw Cove, trying to convince ourselves that we were making the right decision, and every bit as masculine for it.
As a consolation prize we had the unique opportunity to see a submarine being towed back towards the Groton submarine base. We also took note of another sailboat heading out to brave the rough seas. Chickens. They were so insecure they had to prove their manliness.
Another day ashore for us. This time in lovely New London, CT. We saw the Sub Museum and toured the USS Nautilus from which we found the perfect spot to watch the other sailboat slink back in behind us. After great effort Sean and I were thwarted in our attempt to hit one of the Casinos. But we were rewarded with the hospitality of Kream coffee shop. Free wireless...football game on...consider us happy. On top of that the weather for tomorrow is supposed to be better so wish us luck as we resume our adventures.

You're quite generous to call New London "lovely" boys.. good luck and stay warm.
Greetings, Looks like you all are continuing to make wise decisions!!! I have spent time in downtown NL and it really is not all that lovely! Probably a bit of artistic license? But it may have changed... Love your accounting and keeping us vicariously aboard the Moxie! Perhaps today will be a grand day for setting out toward Greenwich. From the photos I see there are other sail boats still in the water...A good sign..my hardies. Have a super day and much love. God speed, Mother Meikle
Your photos make every place you visit look lovely! The decision to turn back sounds very professional (and what satisfaction, seeing the other boat return as well!) and you couldn't have picked a better day to be watching the football game. It sounds like there might be a story in the thwarted attempt to visit the casino?....Anyway, I hope the sun is shining on you today, and the winds are favorable. Looking forward to your next entry! Love to all--

So, where are you now, guys? Considering what the weather has been like here, and the fact that you are a bit further south, you should be starting to get a tan....I hear that Greenwich is a pretty fancy place. I'm looking forward to hearing your take on it, especially after your kind comments about New London. Happy sailing!
Love to all

Anyone hear from these crazies lately? Pete? Give us an update via comment, please! You hold the power! And tell my brother I said hello!
So you met Hen and Chickens?!! Suprised it wasn't studded with masts. We think of you often, and are reading your postings with great interest. Love your wisdom and humor. With those 2 things, plus some nice wind, you'll go far. Sail on, Moxie!
stay strong.

for those of you following Sean's adventures, my husband and I (and another couple) spoke with Sean this evening as we all ate dinner at Taylor's in Southport, NC. He is having some difficulties with his phone (holding very little charge--he was charging it in the restaurant and hoped to do more charging later this eve at Fishy Fishy) and he has some computer challenges. I suggested stopping at the Southport library tomorrow to use their computers before he heads to Myrtle Beach--by road, about 50 - 65 miles from here (but we need to go due west for 15 miles before turning South.) After reading his blog, I wish we had invited him to stay the night is a real bed and use our facilities. God speed, Sean! Ruth Ann and Glenn (the nurse and her husband)
